Matthew Appleton - Director of Podiatry
Matt is the Director of Podiatry at Lifecare Prahran Sports Medicine who has specialised in musculoskeletal medicine and biomechanics for over 25 years.
A qualified Sports Podiatrist, Matt has a Bachelor of Science in Podiatry and has offered his expertise to Melbourne, Western Bulldogs and the St Kilda Football clubs, Melbourne Victory F.C and the Victorian Cricket team. He was a Consultant Podiatrist at the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games.
Matt has held a specialist positions at the Alfred and Austin Hospitals, consulting to the Orthopaedic Units and the TAC where he gained invaluable experience with complex foot and ankle injuries like ankle, calcaneal, talar, midfoot and Liz Francs sprains and fractures.
Matt offers his expertise to people / athletes of all ages with foot or leg pain, or those who have sustained complex foot trauma due to motor vehicle trauma, work place accidents or lives mishaps.
Matt has vast experience in the prescription and manufacture of foot orthoses. In the late 1990's, Matt successfully introduced a CAD CAM foot orthotic manufacturing system at Peninsula Podiatric Laboratory where he was a Director. Not long afterwards he introducing non-weight bearing foot laser scanning, replacing plaster casting.
In the early 2000’s Matt started planning for Australia's first true speciality running shoe store offering gait evaluation in store. In 2002 Active Feet opened in Prahran and grew to be four stores strong with Matt as the Chairman. A position he held until Dec 2015 when Active Feet was sold
With an unwavering commitment to the betterment of his patients Matt consults Mon Tue and Wed at Lifecare Prahran Sports Medicine.
Outside of the clinic, Matt enjoys cycling, water and snow skiing, bush walking, and farming Angus cattle at his farm in Mansfield.
