Stuart Canavan - Physiotherapist
Stuart has been practicing for 24 years in private practice settings both in Australia and the USA. Aside from his private practice work in the USA he also assisted both the University of Kentucky and Medical University of South Carolina as part of the faulty with the education of physical therapy students for 6 years. His role in the university settings included the development of curriculum, lecturing and tutorial delivery in the musculoskeletal programs.
Upon returning to Australia approximately 17 years ago, Leesa, Stuart's wife and physiotherapist, together started, developed and managed a large multidisciplinary allied health clinic in Rowville, Victoria (Rise Health Group) that included an 8-year involvement in the development and management of over 20 clinicians and a high-performance athletic development academy which now hosts over 770 high school aged student athletes. Aside from a performance development focus, the instigation of best practice, long term athletic development programs has seen him achieve a significant reduction in lower limb injury rates. In the last 2 years in a cohort of over 770 male and female adolescent athletes in a variety sports we have seen no ACL injuries. This compares with 4 ACL injuries in the first year of our involvement with a cohort of a little under 300 athletes.

Stuart's Masters and physiotherapy knowledge has been combined to assist many athletes, recreational to elite, including 3 years as the Head Physiotherapist for the ‘Pats Veg Cycling Team’ (Drapac Pro Cycling development team) as well role of Wellbeing Director for Drapac Pro Cycling in 2016.
Stuart have extensive experience and clinical knowledge in advanced pain sciences, that include the assessment and management of complex musculoskeletal pain states including headache, chronic pain, viscero-somatic pain presentations and complex regional pain syndromes. This pain sciences knowledge is combined with advanced exercise prescription programming for patients requiring rehabilitation from spinal pain, post-operative recovery, reoccurring pain and injury, athletic injury management and prevention and performance programming, particularly in the adolescent and endurance athlete population.
Stuart believes strongly in the philosophy of patient empowerment through education to allow patients to move towards actively contributing to optimising their health in a complete manner, particularly with the evidence based approaches of exercise, nutrition and wellbeing.
